So here it is. My first blog post. It's only recently that I began reading and following blogs. Needless to say, I'm hooked. Since, I consider myself an "incurable Anglophile" you will likely be seeing a lot of posts relating to things from the other side of the pond. So here goes...
I recently discovered this great war time poster that seems to be everywhere now. Created by the Ministry of Information in Great Britain in 1939, the poster was all but lost. In 2000, a copy of the poster was discovered in a Northumberland bookshop. The owners of the bookshop began reprinting the poster since the UK copyright had expired.
Since that time, the poster has been reprinted in various colors and on a plethora of different decor items. There have also been many humorous adaptations such as "Bloody Hell We're Buggered Now." I find the graphic design of the poster rather appealing.
Most of all, I really appreciate the message. One must remember to tell oneself "Keep Calm and Carry On" when this modern life seems to get the best of me.

"Keep Calm and Carry On" is such a perfect poster for Brits, especially of that era. And the rug! Wonderful with the wellies on it!
ReplyDeleteAh, wellies. That's a forthcoming blog post!
ReplyDeleteI have the Keep Calm and Carry On poster but I have to say the last one is almost as appealing!
ReplyDeleteLove slogan to KC&CO...words to live by. Although not English, I do love all things British. That Shakespeare fellow wasn't bad either. Will keep popping in to see what's new. Thanks for visiting our blog too. All the best.
